My Bio

Brent the Massage Dude aka Magoo

I have two beautiful children; Kim who is a graduate of SRHS, married to a Marine and has two boys, Aidan & Adam (who I call Rocky); and Kyle who is a sports fiend at VCHS.  My wife, April is an artist, a wonderful companion and a great step mom.  Mary is our semi-sweet chocolate Lab.

I am legally blind due to macular degeneration in both eyes.  Unable to see the "big E" in either eye but can count fingers at 3 feet; a macular hole, glaucoma, and a lensectomy in the right one.

A native of San Diego, went to San Pasqual HS graduating on the bicentennial year.  Was a roofing foreman and worked in every phase of construction from underground utilities to roof structures.  Was involved in a major head-on collision in 1980 where both of my legs were broken and spent 6 months in a wheel chair.  During two years of recovery, I got very intimate with my legs, knees, back & neck.  I can empathize with injuries and strain.

I was a carpenter working tilt-up jobs for Lusardi construction when I was faced with the decision to change vocations and pursue something that was less sight intensive than swinging a hammer and reading blueprints.  My disability was brought on by a work injury in 1975.  It hadn't caused me great grief until the degeneration set in.  In the late '80's my good eye began having macular trouble.  My vision went from 20/50 to 20/400 in a less than 10 years and I have not driven since 1992.

Completed a computer training course and received a certificate in computer programming at Grossmont college.  Worked at several software companies such as ChipSoft (Intuit) and for the IS department of Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation.

After several mergers and layoffs I decided to get into something more suited to my taste.  Since I am a people person and love to do physical work; I began my journey into the holistic realm.  I studied at Body Mind College under the guidance of Dr. Barry Green , Ph.D.  Took the massage tech exam and began my practice the beginning of Y2K.  I have completed the 1000 hour HHP course at BMC and continue to attain more connection and understanding of body mechanics to develop my skills and grow in my profession.

Began performing massage at the BMC clinic. I then worked for over a year at Primo's until the day they shut the doors. Worked for C. Spa at Banker's Hill; then transfered to the La Jolla location, and then to the Poway spa. They changed owners to Stone Water Spas and then to Primier. I have taken and passed the National Certification for Body work and Therapeutic massage and have been picking up shifts at La Jolla Spa MD. I also work with Camelia at La Jolla Sports Club.

Okay, been awhile since I have updated this blog, so here's an update for my friends.
Work at home and at corporate locations offering chair massage. Kyle is graduating from VCHS and heading up to Long Beach for college. Kim is taking classes in bodywork for her career in massage and bodywork.
For relaxation and enjoyment my wife and I have been in a band called Old Skool. She sings lead and I sing and play guitar. We've been playing gigs at Moose lodges and private parties. Goto www.rockball.net for more band info.
I also play pool with a team called Stumble Inn at the Mira Mesa Inn. I've actually been on this team for about 10 years' which doesn't make me good, just consistant. I've learned ao much from these guys; Ron, John, Randy, Tom, Bill and Marcy. Gotta give credit for the "Blind 5" to an original teammate, Ben aka Obie Wan Kanobi.
